Zaragoza has the honour of being the cradle of the seventh art: in 1899 Eduardo Jimeno shot the first surviving film of Spanish cinema, Salida de misa de doce del Pilar de Zaragoza.
Since then, the city, whose architectural and cultural wealth is unquestionable, has offered the most beautiful corners to the big screen. Scenarios chosen as filming locations by great masters of cinema such as Fernando Trueba, Terry Gilliam, Carlos Saura, Vicente Aranda, Milos Forman, Florián Rey, Luis García Berlanga, José Luis Borau, King Vidor, Orson Welles, Stephen Frears, José María Forqué, Guillermo del Toro, Bigas Luna, Julio Medem and José Luis Cuerda. Places where actors and actresses of the stature of Charlton Heston, Imperio Argentina, Fernando Rey, Antonio Banderas, Johnny Depp, Natalie Portman, Javier Bardem, Gina Lollobrigida, Penélope Cruz, George Sanders, Antonio Resines, Paco Martínez Soria, Victoria Abril, Jorge Sanz, Uma Thurman, Federico Luppi, Juan Diego, Alfredo Landa, José Sacristán, Carmelo Gómez, Adolfo Marsillach, Tyrone Power, Paco Rabal and Carmen Maura. Spaces that have it all in a city that is committed to sustainability and culture and which also has one of the largest and most varied municipalities in Spain and in Europe, from the arid plains to the vegetation of the Ebro, from Roman ruins to contemporary architecture. A city that has always been diverse. A city that is for everyone.
The list of autochthonous creators who have continued in this wake has grown with the passing of time. And their wake – that of Miguel Ángel Lamata, Nacho G. Velilla, Nata Moreno, Paula Ortiz, Pilar Palomero or Gaizka Urresti – is also inspiring in this project, where the Aragonese audiovisual industry plays a fundamental role. More than a hundred years of cinema converge in a journey through Zaragoza, whose film office is ready to make any dream possible.
This filming destination will attend SHOOTING LOCATIONS MARKETPLACE, the event for the audiovisual industry organised by Feria de Valladolid and Spain Film Commission. On 20 and 21 October, producers, location scouts, filming destinations and ancillary services companies will meet in the city of Valladolid with the aim of reaching commercial agreements for future shoots.
