Since the Jimeno brothers filmed Salida de misa de doce del Pilar de Zaragoza in 1899, considered by many historians to be the first preserved Spanish film, the Aragonese capital has maintained a constant relationship with the camera. Today, that tradition is transforming and projecting itself into the future.
The audiovisual sector is strategic in Zaragoza. So much so that the city has just launched Distrito 7, an innovative ecosystem with more than 20 million euros of investment that combines film studios, training, applied research and creative entrepreneurship. It is the new face of the audiovisual industry in Spain: a space where industry, talent and innovation come together.
From Goya to Buñuel, from Paula Ortiz to Pilar Palomero: a land that creates images
The art of telling stories through images is part of Zaragoza’s DNA. From Goya, master of vision and precursor of visual storytelling, to Luis Buñuel, who took Aragonese imagination to the heights of universal surrealism, and to Paula Ortiz and Pilar Palomero, who have given voice to a new generation of filmmakers, Zaragoza has always been a city that inspires, moves and projects.
Its urban landscape, historical heritage and cultural personality have made it a recurring setting for directors and producers. But today, beyond history, Zaragoza also offers technology, sustainability and a vision for the future.
Distrito 7: the new urban audiovisual hub
The new Distrito 7 symbolizes that evolution. With three large sound stages, innovation laboratories in immersive media, digital scanning and XR, and spaces for training, entrepreneurship and creative coworking, the project promotes a public–private model connected to the Spain Audiovisual Hub and the European I·3 programs. A technological and sustainable hub, designed to attract film productions, talent and investment, and to position Zaragoza as one of the most advanced audiovisual ecosystems in southern Europe.
A connected, industrial and talented city
Zaragoza is Spain’s fourth largest city, an industrial, creative and talented capital that combines scale, services and quality of life. Just 75 minutes from Madrid or Barcelona by high-speed train, and a short distance from the Pyrenees, it offers competitive costs, logistical advantages and high profitability for productions. A two-thousand-year-old city, shaped by four cultures and three rivers, where past and future coexist in perfect cinematic harmony.
Zaragoza Film Office: agility, clarity and support
The Zaragoza Film Office, managed by the City Council, is the first 100% online one-stop office for filming in Spain (www.zaragozafilmoffice.com). Its mission is clear: to facilitate, support and streamline every production, from the selection of locations to the management of permits and coordination with municipal services.
The processing system defines three levels of complexity, ensuring speed, predictability and technical assistance. Thanks to this structure and its comprehensive service model, audiovisual activity has multiplied: from 13 productions recorded in 2020 to 133 in 2023, and 208 filming permits processed in 2024, consolidating Zaragoza as a benchmark of management and efficiency in Spain.
Incentives and production support
Zaragoza offers a 30% tax incentive for national and international productions, along with an active policy of filming support, technical services and institutional cooperation. It is a city that tells stories, but also drives industry, technology and talent. A city committed to going further, with new incentives and tools for the future of the audiovisual sector.
Present at Shooting Locations Marketplace 2025
With its participation in Shooting Locations Marketplace 2025, Zaragoza reaffirms its position as a strategic destination for the European audiovisual industry. Because here, more than just hosting film shoots, they are understood, supported and made possible.
