The Region of Murcia will return to Shooting Locations Marketplace 2025, following its participation in the 2024 edition, with a strengthened proposal that positions it as one of the most complete filming destinations in southern Europe. Its diverse landscapes, strong institutional support, and a fully operational professional ecosystem are just some of the reasons why both national and international production companies continue to choose this southeastern Spanish region.
With more than 250 kilometres of coastline along the Mediterranean and the Mar Menor —the largest saltwater lagoon in Europe—, the Region of Murcia offers a variety of settings that allow productions to recreate anything from North African deserts to modern urban environments, without ever leaving the territory.
This adaptability has been key to attracting major international productions such as Green Zone, The Counselor, Terminator, Taken 3, and Venom, where its mines, airports, or urban districts have been transformed into such diverse locations as Santa Monica, Mexico, or even the surface of Mars.
Infrastructure, climate and logistics: conditions that enhance any production
One of the region’s main assets is its climate: more than 3,000 hours of sunshine per year, short and mild winters, and temperatures around 20°C for much of the year. This not only facilitates planning but increases efficiency by reducing weather-related downtime.
This climatic stability is complemented by modern, well-connected infrastructure: the Region of Murcia International Airport is just 30 minutes from the capital and Cartagena; an extensive network of motorways links the entire region; seaports serve both commercial and recreational use; and high-speed rail connects Murcia directly to Madrid. All of this creates an ideal logistical environment for moving personnel and equipment efficiently.
The region also boasts a strong audiovisual sector with experience in cinema, television, advertising and video games. The Region of Murcia Film Commission (RMFC) maintains updated directories of qualified professionals and service providers, facilitates the registration of new filming locations, and coordinates permits and institutional contacts needed for any shoot.
Sustainability, comprehensive support and international experience
Sustainability is a central pillar of Murcia’s audiovisual strategy. The RMFC actively promotes green shooting, offering guidance to meet zero-impact standards: energy efficiency, waste reduction, natural environment protection, and responsible resource use. The commission also incorporates principles of equality and inclusion as part of its commitment to a modern, forward-looking audiovisual industry.
The Film Commission plays a crucial role at every stage of production. It offers financial and technical advisory services, helps productions access available tax incentives, and acts as an active partner throughout the filming process. Its network of municipal offices (Red FO RM) enables efficient coordination across the territory, with each municipality directly supporting the regional effort.
This October, Murcia will once again connect with the global audiovisual industry at Shooting Locations Marketplace, held on the 15th and 16th in Valladolid. Backed by the experience of hosting directors like Ridley Scott and a regional strategy that sees film as a driver of economic development, global visibility and cultural innovation, Murcia returns with a clear message: it doesn’t just want to be a setting — it wants to be the protagonist.
