With 85,000 km² of territory, a well-established support network for artistic creation, and a firm commitment to the audiovisual industry, Nouvelle-Aquitaine has become one of the main cultural and film hubs in southern Europe. From Bordeaux to the Pyrenees, this French region stands out not only for the richness of its locations —ranging from medieval villages to wild coastlines and endless vineyards— but also for a professional ecosystem that fosters production, creativity and both local and international talent. Through ALCA (Agency for Books, Cinema and Audiovisual of Nouvelle-Aquitaine), the region promotes contemporary creation across multiple formats, offering direct support to artists, publishers and producers. Once again this year, Nouvelle-Aquitaine and ALCA will be present at Shooting Locations Marketplace, reaffirming their commitment to the international audiovisual sector.
A comprehensive support network for creation
ALCA Nouvelle-Aquitaine is much more than a regional agency: it is the engine that drives the region’s cultural life and connects it to the world. Its strategy is based on personalised support for professionals in books, cinema and the audiovisual sector, ensuring both creative freedom and access to tangible resources. Among its most notable tools are grants for creation (fiction, non-fiction, essays or illustration), funding for translation and editorial programmes, as well as mobility schemes and support for participation in festivals.
Artistic residencies are another key pillar, with spaces such as Chalet Mauriac and cross-residency projects with territories like Quebec, Africa or Haiti, strengthening cultural exchange. At the same time, the agency supports arts education —with initiatives like the Pôle régional d’éducation aux images— and a sustainable ecosystem for publishing, distribution and independent bookstores. Legal assistance, specialist documentation and platforms for dissemination —such as the Éclairages magazine or its catalogue of supported works— complete the offer.
Infrastructure, talent and unique locations for film
Nouvelle-Aquitaine is a natural film set in itself. Its 720 kilometres of Atlantic coastline, mountainous and rural landscapes, dynamic cities such as Bordeaux and rich architectural heritage —including several UNESCO World Heritage Sites— make the region a dream location for filmmakers. The regional film commission, coordinated by ALCA, provides full production support: location scouting, filming permits, local crew sourcing and detailed listings of post-production, VFX and animation providers. A network of eight local film commissions ensures fast and tailored responses to every production’s needs.
On top of that, the region offers highly competitive financial incentives. In addition to the regional fund for minority co-productions, international productions may benefit from the TRIP (Tax Rebate for International Productions), a national incentive offering up to 40% reimbursement for audiovisual projects carried out wholly or partly in France. This system has made Nouvelle-Aquitaine a strategic destination for productions of all types and budgets.
Once again this year, Nouvelle-Aquitaine and its network of professionals will take part in Shooting Locations Marketplace on 15 and 16 October in Valladolid, with the goal of continuing to build bridges between international talent and a territory that has everything it takes to tell great stories.
