The Andalucía Film Commission (AFC) will be one of the main exhibitors at the Shooting Locations Marketplace, to be held at the Valladolid Trade Fair from 15 to 16 October. With a unique and diverse proposal, Andalusia is consolidating its position as one of the most attractive filming destinations in the world, offering up to 30% tax refund and a highly qualified audiovisual industry.
The diversity of locations is ideal
Andalusia is a true paradise for filmmakers thanks to its great diversity of locations. From Europe’s largest desert in Tabernas, Almeria, to the beautiful beaches of Cadiz, the region offers unique and varied scenery. Producers can find historic sites, modern buildings, towering snow-capped mountains, diverse landscapes, forests, tropical settings, whitewashed villages, castles, baroque mansions and fabulous Moorish palaces.
In a single day, it is possible to tour the Tabernas desert, famous for westerns, ski in the Sierra Nevada – where Juan Antonio Bayona recreated the mountains of Chile for his film ‘The Snow Society’ – and end the day bathing on the beaches of Cádiz, seen in the last season of ‘Killing Eve’ or in the Bollywood film ‘Pathaan’.
1,400 shootings per year is a guaranteed figure
The AFC has been collaborating for more than 25 years with production companies that choose Andalusia as a filming destination. To offer better assistance, they have created the Andalusian Film Cities Network, with offices distributed throughout the region that advise on locations, local industry, subsidies and incentives. Together with this network, they manage more than 1,400 film shoots per year.
In addition, Andalusia has a highly qualified, experienced and internationally accredited audiovisual industry. Andalusian talent is recognised worldwide, and the region has a modern communications infrastructure by land, sea and air, with more than 24,000 kilometres of roads, high-speed train lines, five international airports and 36 seaports.
The line-up of films that have chosen Andalusia is impressive
Andalusia is one of the most cinematographic regions in the world. Its eight provinces have been the ideal setting for the creation of many iconic films that remain in the cinematic imagination, such as ‘Lawrence of Arabia’, ‘Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade’ or ‘For a Fistful of Dollars’.
Blockbusters such as ‘Exodus: Gods and Kings’ or ‘Star Wars. Episode II – Attack of the Clones’, national hits such as “Alatriste” or “La isla mínima”, and world-renowned series such as “Game of Thrones” or “The Crown” have also found in Andalusia the perfect setting for their stories.
