With a film legacy that ranges from Doctor Zhivago to El Pueblo, Soria not only looks to the past with pride—it positions itself as a versatile, efficient, and sustainable stage for the future of the industry.
Soria Film Commission, driven by the Provincial Council and the City Council of Soria since 2019, has become a key player in promoting and facilitating both national and international productions. In October, it will take part in Shooting Locations Market 2025 to strengthen this position before a specialised professional audience.
Filming in Soria: public service, scenic diversity, and sustainable production
Soria Film Commission presents itself as a public, free-of-charge office dedicated to the sector. It acts as a one-stop shop for audiovisual productions seeking efficient procedures, access to local providers, location scouting, or permit management. But its added value goes far beyond logistics: Soria offers an unusually concentrated range of landscapes that can double as the Russian steppe or medieval villages, without long travel times.
The variety is remarkable: charming villages, castles, Romanesque monasteries, river canyons, railway stations, rivers and lagoons, vernacular architecture, and historical interiors of great heritage value.
This scenographic adaptability has been decisive in making Soria a natural set for such diverse titles as Chimes at Midnight (Orson Welles), Duck, You Sucker! (Sergio Leone), The Sky Turns (Mercedes Álvarez), or The Three Musketeers by Richard Lester. The province is not just a backdrop, but also atmosphere and texture—a narrative tool the film industry has tapped into for over a century.
The Commission also actively promotes sustainable filming practices through its “green shooting” policy. Renewable energy, waste reduction, electric transport, biodegradable materials, and the donation of surplus food are among the measures it recommends as a standard for environmentally responsible shoots. This vision is complemented by initiatives such as “Offer Your Location”, which invites individuals and institutions to propose spaces for filming, expanding the local catalogue and encouraging community involvement.
An international showcase: Soria at Shooting Locations Market 2025
Soria’s participation in Shooting Locations Market 2025 strengthens its international ambition as a film destination. On October 15 and 16, the province will return to Valladolid with a schedule of meetings with location scouts and producers from studios and platforms such as Netflix, Marvel, HBO, and Mediapro. In previous editions, Soria Film Commission already attracted interest from professionals representing ten countries, including the UK, Germany, Canada, and Italy.
Its presence at the marketplace is far from symbolic. It represents a real business opportunity for the local industry and a way to firmly place Soria on the European audiovisual map. Moreover, it allows the province to continue promoting a territory that has transformed its geography, history, and institutional support into strategic advantages for the film sector.
