The Wine and Wine Tourism Route of Oporto and the North wants to be seen at FINE 2025

The Wine and Wine Tourism Route of Porto and the North stands as an emblematic initiative that unites the four main wine regions of northern Portugal: Douro and Porto, Vinhos Verdes, Távora-Varosa, and Trás-os-Montes. This project, born from the collaboration of various entities, aims to promote the sustainable tourism development of the region, highlighting its rich wine and cultural heritage.
The passion for wine in northern Portugal
The creation of this route is the result of a joint effort between the Instituto dos Vinhos do Douro e do Porto (IVDP), the Comissão de Viticultura da Região dos Vinhos Verdes, the Comissão Vitivinícola Regional Távora-Varosa, the Comissão Vitivinícola Regional de Trás-os-Montes, Turismo do Porto e Norte de Portugal, and the Associação de Turismo de Oporto.
These entities signed a protocol at the Rivoli Theatre in Porto, consolidating an alliance aimed at boosting wine tourism in northern Portugal. The region is home to three UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the Historic Centre of Porto (1996), the Côa Valley (1998), and the Alto Douro Wine Region (2001), reflecting its deep connection with wine culture.

Four terrains to enjoy
The route offers visitors the opportunity to explore four distinct terroirs in a single trip, each with unique characteristics:
- Douro and Porto: known for its stunning terraced vineyard landscapes and the world-famous Port wine.
- Vinhos Verdes: a region that produces young and fresh wines, ideal for pairing with local cuisine.
- Távora-Varosa: renowned for its high-quality sparkling wines, made using traditional methods.
- Trás-os-Montes: an area of robust wines with a unique character, reflecting its distinctive terrain and climate.
Wine tourists can engage in various activities, such as visits to wineries and vineyards, wine tastings, gastronomic pairings, and cultural events. Additionally, the route integrates complementary experiences, including stays in historic quintas, restaurants with menus harmonised with local wines, and outdoor activities that allow for full immersion in the region’s wine culture.
