The Ronda and Malaga Wine Route: sun, vineyards and wine tourism

Málaga

At the next edition of FINE #WineTourism Marketplace 2024, wine and culture enthusiasts will have an exceptional opportunity to immerse themselves in the richness of the Ronda and Malaga Wine Route.

This experience is not just limited to wine tasting; it is a deep dive into the history, culture and traditions that form the heart of this wine region.

The DOs of Malaga, in depth

Attendees will discover the various Designations of Origin that frame the route. The D.O.P. Málaga, for example, will offer a tasting of its wide range of wines, from still wines to exclusive liqueur wines.

Each wine will present a unique story, highlighting the ageing processes that give life to varieties such as Pálido, Noble, Añejo and Trasañejo. On the other hand, the Sierras de Málaga PDO and the Serranía de Ronda sub-zone will showcase their diversity through white, rosé, red and sweet red wines, each reflecting the unique characteristics of their terroir.

The route is also a journey through the rich winemaking history of the province of Málaga, dating back to the Phoenician and Roman eras.

Visitors can learn more about this historical legacy through exhibits highlighting archaeological finds and vestiges of the region’s ancient wine industry, such as ancient wine presses and winemaking tools.

This historical perspective provides a deeper understanding of how viticulture has been a fundamental pillar of the local culture and economy over the centuries.

The experience is further enriched by a strong gastronomic component. Visitors will be able to enjoy carefully selected pairings, where the wines on the route will be complemented by local dishes and tapas, highlighting the synergy between regional gastronomy and wines. This combination of flavours promises to be a celebration of the palate and a showcase of Malaga’s culinary art.

In addition, FINE #WineTourism Marketplace will serve as a reminder of DESCORCHA EXPERIENCE, an event that encapsulates the essence of the wine route and which was held on 9 December 2023. This event showcased the cultural richness and variety of experiences that visitors can expect on the Ronda and Malaga Wine Route, from specialised tastings to tours exploring the region’s wine heritage and history.

The Ronda and Malaga Wine Route’s participation in FINE #WineTourism Marketplace 2024 will not simply be a showcase of exceptional wines, but a complete celebration of the culture, history and art of winemaking.

It will be an opportunity for visitors to experience first-hand the depth and richness of this wine region, where every glass of wine tells a story, and every taste carries with it the legacy of generations. Participants will take away not only memories of exquisite flavours, but also a deeper understanding and appreciation for the winemaking tradition that has shaped the identity of this unique region of Spain.
