The Anadia Palace has the virtues to be a protagonist at FINE

Palacio Anadia

The Palácio dos Condes de Anadia, located in Mangualde, in the demarcated region of Dão in Portugal, is an 18th-century architectural gem that combines history, culture, and wine tourism. Its participation in the Valladolid Fair highlights its relevance in the current wine tourism landscape.

Over 300 years of history

The origins of this manor house date back to the 17th century when Gaspar Paes do Amaral, Captain Major of Mangualde, established a connection with the chapel dedicated to Saint Bernard in 1644. In the first quarter of the 18th century, Simão Paes do Amaral undertook the reconstruction of the old house, a project continued by his son, Miguel Paes do Amaral.

These works, which lasted for about a century, transformed the modest residence with a chapel into one of the most outstanding Baroque palaces in Portugal. At the beginning of the 19th century, the property, then known as the “House of the Paes do Amaral,” adopted the name “Palace of Anadia” after the marriage of Manuel Paes de Sá do Amaral to D. Maria Luiza de Sá Pereira de Menezes de Melo Sottomayor, third Countess of Anadia.

Throughout its history, the palace has hosted illustrious figures, such as Marshal Massena, commander of the French army during the third Napoleonic invasion in 1810, and King Luís I of Portugal, who visited the palace in 1882 on the occasion of the inauguration of the Beira Alta Railway.
