Quinta da Lagoalva de Cima, a treasure in the heart of the Tejo region

Lagoalva

In the upcoming edition of FINE #WineTourism Marketplace, taking place on the 13th and 14th of March 2024, we will have the privilege of featuring Quinta da Lagoalva de Cima, a wine-producing jewel located in the Tejo region, Portugal.

This historic estate, stretching along the south bank of the Tagus River near Alpiarça, is a living example of tradition and innovation in viticulture and wine tourism. Its presence at the fair is a unique opportunity to closely explore its wine tourism proposal, which combines historical richness, natural beauty, and an exceptional wine offering.

The history of Quinta da Lagoalva de Cima is intimately linked to wine production since 1888, already standing out for its quality at the Portuguese Exhibition of Industry.

Today, its 45 hectares of vineyards benefit from an exceptional climate and terroir, allowing the cultivation of both national and international varieties, ensuring wines of unique personality and marked quality.

Modernity and tradition go hand in hand in their winery, where vinification practices blend the “new world” model with more classic European options, resulting in wines that are a true expression of the Tejo terroir.

An emblematic area of the Tejo

The wine tourism experience at Quinta da Lagoalva de Cima is a complete immersion in the world of wine and agricultural tradition, offering visitors the chance to explore one of the most emblematic estates of the Tejo.

From the moment of arrival, guests are invited to discover the unique beauty of this natural area, spanning the south bank of the Tagus near Alpiarça, where the historical, human, and agricultural legacy come together to provide an unforgettable experience.

The guided tour programme is the heart of the estate’s wine tourism offering. It begins with a tour of the Quinta da Lagoalva palace, followed by a visit to the winery, where the wine-making processes are explained.

The day continues in the chapel, showcasing the traditions of yesteryear and today, as well as in the stable and riding arena, where the Coudelaria de Lagoalva is presented. A unique experience is the horse-drawn carriage ride, allowing visitors to appreciate the magnitude of the property and closely learn about the production of cork, oil, and, of course, wine.

Wine tastings at Quinta da Lagoalva de Cima are another indispensable facet of its wine tourism proposal. These sessions not only allow tasting the exquisite wines produced at the estate but are also complemented by a selection of regional products that enhance the experience.

Furthermore, customised activities are offered that allow visitors to design their experience at the estate, from picnics in the montado to participating in a harvest, through to pilates classes in the garden or attending a falconry demonstration.

A legacy that endures

Beyond its wine tourism proposal, Quinta da Lagoalva de Cima is a living testimony to the history and agricultural tradition of Portugal.

Belonging to the Palmela family since the 19th century, the estate has managed to preserve its legacy, adapting to new times without losing its essence. Participation in FINE #WineTourism Marketplace will not only allow Quinta da Lagoalva de Cima to showcase its commitment to excellence and sustainability but also reaffirm its position as a benchmark in the wine tourism sector.
