Pago de la Jaraba, from Villarrobledo to the world
In the heart of Castilla La Mancha, between Villarrobledo and El Provencio, lies La Jaraba, a historical site whose name, given by the Arabs, means “land abundant in water”.
This land, witness to civilisations from the Palaeolithic period to the present day, tells the story of how Iberians, Romans, Visigoths and Arabs found in this enclave an ideal home for their agriculture and livestock. La Jaraba, with its rich history and fertile land, presents itself as a mirror of the past and a reflection of the present.
With the turn of the millennium, La Jaraba underwent a remarkable transformation. A new owner revolutionised the production system, recovering and improving the vineyards, olive groves and livestock. A winery, a cheese dairy and an oil mill were built, positioning La Jaraba as a model of integral and sustainable agri-food exploitation.
This effort was recognised by the European Union, which awarded the area the prestigious “D.O. Pago” seal, reflecting the high quality and uniqueness of its products: wines, Manchego cheeses and olive oil. It is worth mentioning that La Jaraba’s wine tourism proposal will be on display at the next edition of Fine #WineTourism Marketplace, on 13 and 14 March.
What is wine tourism like at La Jaraba?
La Jaraba is distinguished by its unique and enriching wine tourism. The estate invites visitors to explore the La Jaraba Flavours Route, which offers a tour of the estate’s olive groves, vineyards and wineries. This sensory experience includes tastings of olive oil, wines and cheeses from La Mancha, allowing visitors to discover the flavours and aromas of each of these artisanal products.
In addition, the tours are an opportunity to learn about the production process of these products, adding educational value to the gastronomic experience.
Another outstanding experience is Paisajes del Sabor, which takes visitors through the beautiful landscapes of La Jaraba. This guided tour is not only an opportunity to enjoy a unique gastronomic experience, but also to learn about the importance of terroir in the production of Manchego wines, olive oil and cheese. The authenticity of its products and the beauty of the landscapes create an unforgettable experience.
La Jaraba also offers a deep dive into the world of wine with El encanto del vino. Here, visitors can discover the secrets of its Pago Vitícola and the winemaking process in its cellar. La Jaraba’s winemaking tradition unfolds before the eyes of visitors, who can taste a selection of wines while learning about the vine cycle and the meticulous winemaking process.
Finally, El Tesoro Quesero is an adventure that highlights the importance of Manchego cheese in the culture and gastronomy of La Mancha. Visitors can tour the livestock farm and cheese factory, tasting authentic Manchego cheese and learning how the quality of the milk is directly related to the health and well-being of the sheep.
