Canary Island: A winning bet for wine tourism
The Canary Islands, an archipelago of singular beauty and cultural wealth, are home to a wine-growing treasure with roots that go back through history. From Horace, who more than two thousand years ago praised the vines of the “Afortunadas”, to the present day, Canary Island wine has traced a path of excellence.
The combination of grape varieties introduced by the first settlers, masterfully adapted to a porous volcanic soil and a climate marked by the trade winds, has given rise to wines with an unmistakable character.
Varieties such as Listán Negro, Listán Blanco and Malvasía Aromática, grown on terraces and using techniques such as jable tillage, give these wines a unique identity, recognised through Protected Designations of Origin.
Canary Islands wine tourism cluster: Weaving networks in the archipelago
It is in this context of tradition and innovation that the Clúster Enoturismo de Canarias was created, a network of companies and entities that work together for the development of wine tourism in the archipelago. With the vision of connecting each island through wine routes, visits and activities, the Cluster is positioned as a fundamental pillar in the promotion of an integrated and quality wine tourism experience.
The associated wineries, from La Geria and El Grifo in Lanzarote to Bodegas Bentayga and Finca Escudero in Gran Canaria, and La Hubara in Fuerteventura, offer visitors a journey through volcanic landscapes and centuries-old vineyards, where every sip of wine is a story of the Macaronesian land.
Their wine tourism proposal can be discovered in depth on 13 and 14 March during a new edition of the Fine #WineTourism Marketplace, an event that promises to be a showcase for the island’s wine and tourist attractions.
This event is a unique opportunity for wineries, industry professionals and wine lovers to discover the magic of Canary Island wines and the hospitality of its people.
Wine tourism in the Canary Islands: a sensory and sustainable experience
Canarian wine tourism is not just a tasting of exceptional wines, it is an immersion in a unique agro-landscape and a wine culture that has managed to adapt and evolve without losing its essence.
Visitors can visit wineries such as Bodegas El Lomo, San Miguel or Linaje del Pago in Tenerife or Bodega Los Berrazales in Gran Canaria, taking part in activities ranging from the grape harvest to specialised tastings, always in an environment of sustainability and respect for the environment.
The Cluster also has specific wine tourism companies, such as El Cardón NaturExperience or Etnoexperience Canarias, as well as working hand in hand with the Chair of Agrotourism and Wine Tourism at the University of La Laguna.
The Canary Islands, with their idyllic climate and varied landscape, offer an enotourism experience that goes beyond wine. It is an opportunity to connect with the history, nature and gastronomy of a place where each island has its own voice and its own wine. The Clúster Enoturismo de Canarias is the guiding thread of this experience, guaranteeing the visitor an authentic and enriching adventure.
