Bodegas Protos has everything to dazzle wine lovers

Bodegas Protos, located in Peñafiel, Valladolid, is one of Spain’s most iconic wineries, renowned for its contribution to wine tourism and its participation in the Valladolid Fair. Its name, derived from the Greek “Protos,” meaning “first,” reflects its pioneering position in the Ribera del Duero region. Since its founding in 1927, Protos has maintained an unwavering commitment to quality and innovation in wine production.
Wine history from Peñafiel
The origins of Bodegas Protos date back to 29 March 1927, when eleven entrepreneurs from Peñafiel joined forces with the aim of leading the wine market, producing wines with soul and unique essence. This initiative sought not only to produce high-quality wines but also to highlight the importance of the land of Peñafiel and its illustrious winemaking heritage. In 1929, its first wines, from the 1927 and 1928 vintages, were awarded the gold medal at the Barcelona Universal Exposition, consolidating its reputation in the national market.
Over the years, Protos has witnessed and participated in the development of the Ribera del Duero Denomination of Origin, significantly contributing to its recognition and prestige. Although it was originally a cooperative, since 1995 it has operated as a limited company, adapting to changes in the sector without losing its essence and tradition.
