A mosaic of culture, wine and nature awaits in the Region of Valencia

Federación Enoturismo Comunidad Valenciana

The Wine Tourism Federation of the Valencian Community (FECV) has established itself as a key reference in the promotion of wine tourism in Spain. Its participation in the FINE #WineTourism Marketplace stands out not only for the variety and quality of its wine tourism offer, but also for its commitment to the preservation of the cultural and natural heritage of this Mediterranean region.

Millenary heritage and wine diversity

The Region of Valencia has historically been a hotspot for viticulture, and its legacy dates back to Roman times. This heritage is reflected in the diversity of landscapes, grape varieties and production techniques that characterise each of its routes. From the vineyards protected by mountains in Castellón to the extensive hectares of native vines in Utiel-Requena, the region offers a journey through the evolution of wine in the Mediterranean.

Each wine route represents a unique facet of this rich history. The Alicante Wine Route, for example, combines centuries-old wineries with biodynamic wine production, while in Castellón, visitors can explore vineyards surrounded by ancient olive trees. In Utiel-Requena, the focus is on its historic production of red wines, such as the emblematic Bobal, while the Valencia Wine Route connects travellers with the wine-growing tradition of the DO Valencia.

A comprehensive wine tourism offer

The FECV brings together more than 120 companies and 50 municipalities throughout Valencia, offering experiences that go beyond traditional visits to wineries. Tourists can enjoy open-air wine tastings, tours of vineyards, gastronomic experiences with food and wine pairings, and visits to museums and oil mills. There are also active tourism activities on offer, such as horse riding, rafting and even hot-air balloon flights, which allow visitors to enjoy the wine-growing landscape from different perspectives.

One of the outstanding experiences is the ‘Tasting under the stars’ in Castellón, where visitors are welcomed with a paired dinner, followed by an astronomical observation session. In Utiel-Requena, the ‘Land, Sea and Air’ proposal combines visits to wineries, oil tasting and boat or hot-air balloon rides. For its part, the Alicante Wine Route offers the possibility of tasting in historic wineries and enjoying glamping accommodation, surrounded by nature.

Innovation, sustainability and excellence

The commitment of the Wine Tourism Federation of the Valencian Community is not limited to preserving its wine heritage; it also seeks to innovate and adapt to the new demands of the modern wine tourist. Many of the wineries that form part of the FECV have adopted sustainable production practices, such as the use of renewable energies and biological pest control through the installation of nesting boxes for bats, an initiative that combines environmental conservation and viticulture.

This commitment to sustainability is also reflected in the ecotourism experiences, such as the visit to the ‘vineyard of the bats’ in the Sierra de Enguera, where visitors can learn about the role of these mammals in crop protection. Innovation is also present in the diversification of activities, with programmes designed for different tourist profiles, from experienced wine lovers to families looking for educational activities.
