Dehesa de los Canónigos is one of the gems to see at FINE 2025

Located in the heart of Ribera del Duero, in Pesquera de Duero, Bodega Dehesa de los Canónigos stands as a benchmark in Spanish wine tourism. Its participation in the FINE #WineTourism Marketplace underscores its commitment to spreading wine culture and excellence in winemaking.
A place with two centuries of history
The history of Dehesa de los Canónigos dates back to the 19th century. Originally, the estate belonged to the Chapter of the Cathedral of Valladolid, composed of 22 canon monks, hence its name. After the Mendizábal disentailment in 1842, the Basque businessman Toribio Lecanda y del Campo acquired the property. His son, Teodosio Lecanda Chaves, a renowned architect, built a house in the style of a Basque farmhouse in honour of his roots.
This building is still preserved today as a family home. Over the years, the estate changed hands several times until, in 1931, it was acquired by the Cid family. Later, in the 1960s, the Sanz family bought the estate and began selling grapes to the neighbouring Vega Sicilia winery due to their excellent quality. Finally, Luis Sanz Busto founded the family winery we know today, consolidating its legacy in Ribera del Duero.

The tour includes the production and ageing facilities and culminates with a tasting of two of their most emblematic wines: Dehesa de los Canónigos 15 meses and Solideo, accompanied by an appetiser. The approximate duration of the visit is 1 hour and 45 minutes to 2 hours, with a price of €25 per person. There is also the option of private visits for €63 per person.
Care for wine “Grain by Grain”
The winery has implemented sustainable and environmentally friendly practices, seeking to extract the maximum expression of its terroirs. The recently renovated production facilities reflect the winery’s commitment to the pursuit of the highest quality, based on three fundamental pillars: the exhaustive selection of grapes “grain by grain,” the micro-vinifications of each plot to obtain the maximum expression of the terroir, and the sustainability of the entire production process.
This year, Dehesa de los Canónigos has achieved official organic certification for its own vineyards. Additionally, true to its commitment to preserving the environment, the winery has an energy efficiency system aimed at minimising its carbon footprint.
