Lavradores de Fetoria will be showing their proposals at the next edition of FINE

Lavradores de Feitoria

In the world’s oldest and most regulated wine region, the Douro Valley in Portugal, Lavradores de Feitoria has established itself as a unique model of cooperation and sustainability in wine production. Born in 2000 from the union of 15 farmers owning 18 quintas, this innovative company has managed to combine tradition and modernity in its approach to viticulture and, more recently, wine tourism. Its prominent presence at the next edition of FINE #WineTourism Marketplace will be an opportunity to discover the value of its proposal.

The collective effort gave rise to this jewel of the Douro

Lavradores de Feitoria emerged as a collective effort of winegrowers committed to excellence and sustainability. Today, it has 20 quintas strategically located in the three sub-regions of the Douro – Baixo Corgo, Cima Corgo and Douro Superior – allowing it to take advantage of the diversity of terroirs to make wines that represent the oenological richness of the region.

The winery’s approach combines traditional Douro techniques with an innovative business model, oriented towards economic, social and environmental sustainability. This philosophy has enabled Lavradores de Feitoria to establish itself as a benchmark in the production of high quality wines and as an active promoter of the Douro wine culture.

Immersive experiences in the Douro Valley

Lavradores de Feitoria has recently ventured into wine tourism, offering unique experiences that stand out for their authenticity and connection with the region. Among the most outstanding proposals are:

  • ‘Winemaker for a day’: a private experience designed for those who wish to gain an in-depth understanding of the winemaking processes. Visitors tour the vineyards and facilities, participating in activities such as creating their own wine, from blending to labelling. This activity, which includes tastings of wines from specific vineyards such as Meruge, Sobreiro and Quinta da Costa, allows participants to connect directly with the diversity of the Douro terroir.
  • ‘A day at the grape harvest’: during the harvest season, visitors have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the tradition of the grape harvest, participating in the cutting and picking of grapes, followed by a guided tour of the winery and a wine tasting accompanied by local cheeses and cured meats. This activity combines hands-on learning with a sensory experience that highlights the cultural richness of the Douro.
  • Guided tours: available from Monday to Friday, these tours allow visitors to explore the winery’s facilities, including the historical room and the barrel room. Visitors enjoy tastings that reveal the essence of the wines produced in this unique environment.

A balance between environmentalism and promotion of the area

Lavradores de Feitoria stands out not only for the quality of its wines, but also for its commitment to sustainability and innovation. Since its foundation, the company has adopted a model that balances environmental preservation with the promotion of economic and social development in the Douro region.

The focus on terroir diversity allows the winery to produce wines that reflect the uniqueness of each sub-region, while its commitment to responsible winemaking techniques ensures minimal impact on the natural environment. This sustainable approach has been recognised internationally, as evidenced by its recent distinction in the Great Wine Capitals ‘Best Of Wine Tourism 2023’ awards.
