Adega da Gaveta: a family legacy will be present at FINE #WineTourismMarketplace 2025

Located in the sub-region of Tomar, in the heart of the Tejo wine region, Adega da Gaveta represents a model of authenticity, tradition and sustainability in the world of wine tourism. With its participation in FINE #WineTourism Marketplace, this young Portuguese winery stands out not only for its offer of organic and vegan wines, but also for its unique and personalised experiences that connect deeply with the territory and its history.
A history born from a ‘drawer’
The history of Adega da Gaveta has its roots in the rural gatherings organised by grandfather José Margarido, affectionately known as ‘avô Zé’. At these gatherings, it was tradition to find something to share in the ‘gaveta’ (drawer) of the wooden table, a custom that symbolised hospitality and community. This spirit is what today defines the winery project, led by his grandson Francisco Margarido.
Francisco, initially trained in electrical engineering, decided to follow in his grandfather’s footsteps and explore the potential of the family land, starting a wine production based on minimal intervention. Together with his wife Maria, they founded Margaval Vinhos in 2019, with the aim of consolidating their focus on sustainability, expanding production and creating authentic wine tourism experiences that celebrate their family and cultural heritage.

A unique wine tourism offer adapted to all profiles
Adega da Gaveta stands out for offering a variety of wine tourism experiences designed for different interests and audiences. From relaxed visits with wine tastings and tastings of local products, to immersive activities such as lunches among the vineyards, personalised programmes and practical workshops where visitors can become ‘winemakers for a day’.
For those who love nature and disconnection, options such as the ‘Picnic vínico a dois’ offer an intimate experience among the vineyards, while more complete proposals such as the ‘Da Vinha à Mesa’ programme combine tastings, guided tours and a traditional meal based on the emblematic dish of lamb cooked slowly in a clay pot, following grandfather Zé’s recipe.
Families also have their space at Adega da Gaveta, with activities designed for children, such as blind tastings of fruit juices and grape harvest workshops, allowing the little ones to have fun while the adults enjoy the wines. In addition, for those seeking wellness, experiences such as yoga among the vineyards and wine therapy add an innovative touch to wine tourism.
Minimal intervention on the grapes as a pillar of the winery
One of the fundamental pillars of Adega da Gaveta is its commitment to sustainability. The winery uses organic farming practices and is committed to minimal intervention production, respecting the natural character of the grapes as much as possible. Its wines are fermented and aged exclusively in stainless steel tanks, which guarantees the purity and freshness of the aromas and flavours.
In addition, the winery produces vegan wines, reflecting its responsibility to the environment and its sensitivity to the new demands of the contemporary consumer. This sustainable and nature-friendly approach is presented to visitors during wine tourism activities, creating a deeper connection between the public and the work behind each bottle.
Another highlight is the personalised attention offered by Maria and Francisco, who welcome visitors as part of their family. This closeness and authenticity, combined with the exclusivity of their limited productions, make each visit an unforgettable experience.
