Casa Relvas: care and respect for Portuguese wine tourism

Casa Relvas

Casa Relvas is the fruit of the determination to continue the history of a family linked to the land over five generations, on two continents. This family business, started in 1997 in São Miguel de Machede, Redondo, by Alexandre Relvas, found in the Herdade de São Miguel the vast horizon that recalled its African roots.

Since its beginnings, Casa Relvas has stood out for its passion for the Alentejo and respect for its unique nature, which initially led to the reforestation of the typical montado of the region.

However, it was in viticulture, a culture with more than 2000 years of history in the Alentejo, that they discovered their true vocation.

Herdade de São Miguel marked the beginning of this journey in 2001 with the planting of the first 10ha of vineyards, expanding rapidly with the addition of a further 25ha the following year.

This growth was accompanied by the construction of the winery in 2003, capable of vinifying 500 tonnes of grapes, reflecting Casa Relvas’ commitment to excellence and innovation in wine production.

The Relvas family, over time, has been able to combine tradition with modernity, evidenced by the expansion of its wine production and the inclusion of olive growing within its agricultural project.

Casa Relvas wine tourism proposal

Casa Relvas opens its doors to wine and nature lovers, inviting them to explore the beauty and tranquillity of the Alentejo through its wine tourism offer. Visitors can immerse themselves in the authentic atmosphere of the winery, participating in tastings, events and programmes that reflect the genuine spirit of life at the winery.

Its wine tourism proposal is an invitation to live memorable experiences, where proximity, transparency and the sharing of values and production methods are fundamental.

The experience at Casa Relvas is enriched by the possibility of organising events on its estates, from tourist groups to family celebrations or business meetings.

These events are complemented by a careful selection of the best that the regions of Redondo and Évora have to offer, thus promoting the discovery of the most authentic cultural roots of the Alentejo.

Through wine, Casa Relvas proposes a journey into the authentic tradition and contemporary experience of this unique region.

Innovation and sustainability at Casa Relvas

Casa Relvas’ vision transcends the production of high quality wines; it extends to innovation and sustainability in all aspects of its operation. The inclusion of olive growing and the production of extra virgin olive oil reflect this commitment to diversification and the balance between tradition and modernity. The adoption of integrated production practices on its 350 ha of vineyards is testament to its respect for the environment and its commitment to sustainability. Casa Relvas seeks not only to produce wines and oils of excellent quality, but also to make a positive contribution to the natural and social environment of the Alentejo.

Casa Relvas’ participation in the next edition of FINE #WineTourism Marketplace, on 13 and 14 March 2024, is an exceptional opportunity to learn more about its wine tourism proposal.

The fair will be the perfect setting to explore the richness and diversity of Casa Relvas’ offer, reflecting its passion for the Alentejo, its commitment to quality and its innovative vision of the future of wine tourism.
